Created for an undergraduate research project, Mental Edification is dedicated to combatting the stigma around mental illness through education and awareness.
Listen. Learn. Educate.
Break the Stigma
Mental Edification started as a seed of an idea for an undergraduate research project that bridged two very different fields: Psychology and Computer Science. The topic of mental illness utilized the psychology, the creation of a website as the “product” of the project utilized the computer science, and the research utilized the collegiate education that prompted the project. Our biggest concern in mental illness is its rapid growth rate among emerging adults coupled with the ever-persistent stigma that mars it. Our research sets out to understand the facts of mental disorders that college-aged students are prone to, or may already be experiencing, and our website aims to combat the stigma by educating others with our findings. Much of the damage surrounding mental illness is from the lack of education and understanding—education of the facts, understanding of the disorder(s), and education about treatments. Our goal is to aid the spread of that education and understanding in order to help emerging adults with mental illness as well as those around them.
